On the occasion of the upcoming Heritage Days, we offer you a selection of outings suitable for children and therefore ideal for families! Culture, history, creation and games are on the program for this weekend which celebrates national heritage.
“Create your coat of arms” workshop at the Brive Media Library
After a presentation and explanation of the heraldic rules (the science of the coat of arms) the workshop consists of the creation of one's own coat of arms, but the most important thing in its development is what one wants to express. Medieval entertainment at the Commanderie des Templiers de Varetz
The Commandery of Mons in Varetz was occupied by the Templars from the 20th to the beginning of the 22th century and then by the Knights Hospitaller of the Order of Malta until the Revolution. With the Heritage Days from September XNUMX to XNUMX, the Commandery of the Templars will relive the medieval era and you will be able to attend many events.
Medieval entertainment is offered by the Historia Aquitanorum troupe: equestrian demonstrations, reconstruction of life in the 12th century, clothing, weapons, calligraphy, food... Equestrian performance at 10:30 a.m. (Saturday and Sunday) and at 16 p.m. on Saturday and 15 p.m. on Sunday.
Investigation game at Labenche Museum
Mission to liberate works!
Form your research team and set off on a mission to free the looted works hidden in the museum.

Rediscovering Colette’s Gardens
On a guided tour! Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September, two visiting slots are offered at 11 a.m. and 16 p.m. The opportunity to relive as a family the life of the writer Colette who lived for a few years in Corrèze (at the Château de Castel Novel). On the spot, games for children, vegetable labyrinth and tea room will euphorize this cultural outing.
Practical information : Possibility of picnicking on site. Dogs are welcome, kept on a leash.
Hautefort Castle
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days 2024, the Hautefort castle offers a reduced rate of €8,50 for all visitors (instead of a full rate of €12,50) with free access to several activities:
- gourmet workshops in the 17th century bread oven, with the baker: Saturday and Sunday, 10:30 a.m. and 14:30 p.m. / register on site
- a treasure hunt in the French gardens, on the theme of the peregrine falcon, one of the fascinating regular inhabitants of the château: all day long, without registration
- guided tours where the guides will exceptionally be in period costume, for an even more beautiful immersion in the 17th century!: Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m., 14 p.m. and 16 p.m. / register on site.
Journey to the origins of hot chocolate
For Heritage Days, the Bovetti chocolate factory takes you back to the origins of cocoa through the ancestral methods of preparing our chocolate drink, formerly called “xocoatl”.
From the cold, energizing drinks of Native Americans to modern sweet treats, the cocoa drink has undergone many evolutions.
Throughout the travels and discoveries of men, the drink was enriched with spices and sugar to become the sweet, warm and comforting drink that we know.
Accompanied by a guide, you will rediscover the first uses of the cocoa bean, from Aztec religious ceremonies to the rituals of the Spanish court, but above all you will try to reproduce the ancestral recipes that have traveled through history and continents.
