Eight from Couze to Tourmente_1

On the plateau, the Gallo-Roman road crossing the village was a main axis. In the Middle Ages, merchants, pilgrims, armies and crowned heads passed under a modest but historic porch: until 1738 it was a toll point on the border of the Kingdom of France and the Viscounty of Turenne. Notice along the street, the Notre Dame chapel, the Charentais-style balet houses. The ancient ravine path crosses a bocage which was a battlefield against the Duke of Lancaster. This first loop returns to the cemetery before descending to the Tourmente stream. The tunnel, one track from the railway, was the longest in France: more than 2000m. The 5th reading table of the circuit traces the history of Moulin Deschamps, as well as the winegrowing era of the cliffs of Nazareth in Turenne. Admire the citadel on its promontory before heading back towards Nazareth. Yellow markings.
