The Saillant chapel is the only one in France to be entirely decorated with stained glass windows by Marc Chagall. Passionate about the work of this artist, Guy de Lasteyrie du Saillant, descendant of the builders of the chapel, commissioned this work from him.
The six panels were produced between 1978 and 1982 by the glass painters Charles Marq and Brigitte Simon in Reims from models by Chagall who did the finishing touches, notably the numerous effects on the grisaille.
The stained glass windows evoke the primary values of man in nature. The artist played on light through a dialogue between the colored windows and the gray windows. Behind the altar, “Creation”: the stained glass window represents a simple landscape where water, earth and air are illuminated by the fire of the creative Spirit. Two bouquets of multicolored flowers blooming like fireworks facing him in the rose
