Vars-sur-Roseix, a very charming little village made of red stones, has a fairly rare specialty: a tasty and easy-to-cook plum... Souillac too, but they transform their plums and it's brutal, but we haven't stopped manufacturing, because it does not make you blind.

The Vars plum

You may know the village of Vars-sur-Roseix for its tasty plums. It was after the Algerian War that the first plum trees were planted. Production took off in the 90s when several producers grouped around this small fruit. A real organization appeared and propelled its marketing and generated a beautiful arboricultural tradition.

Greengage type, Vars plums are small, very fragrant but containing little juice. Ideal variety for your cakes and pastries. You can find it on local markets during the summer since the harvest takes place during July.

The day before Souillac plum

But it’s not only in Vars-sur-Roseix that we find these round fruits! Go to Souillac and you can taste plum but in another form…

In drinks and more precisely in brandy! It is not uncommon to find this fruit as a digestive but the Louis Roque distillery offers one of the tastiest alcohols: La Vieille Prune. This brandy is slowly refined in oak barrels, which gives it a delicious taste and impeccable quality.

Little more, The Eve Prune is also famous for its digestive virtues. You can enjoy it in small sips after a good meal.

Discover this local know-how by visiting the distillery, you will see the staff there, filling, waxing and manually labeling the bottles.
