Do you know the IGP?

This official European acronym was created in 1992 and means: Protected Geographical Indication.   
As its name indicates, it identifies an agricultural product, raw or processed, whose quality, reputation or others are linked to its geographical origin. The PGI is linked to know-how and local traditions. It can be based on product reputation or public recognition.

To have an IGP, certain rules must be respected. They are included in specifications and are subject to control.

126 PGIs exist for agri-food products in France. 74 for wines and 2 for ciders.
