The Gouffre de La Fage is divided into two galleries. In this chasm you can admire beautiful draperies with various colors, richly decorated calcite bridges, a multitude of stalactites, columns and fantastic figures and a paleontological site.
The tourist site is classified as a NATURA 2000 site. The chasm is home to one of the largest bat colonies in Europe. The aim of being classified as a NATURA 2000 site is to maintain biodiversity by preserving the habitats of fauna and flora. In France, 33 species of bats are present and some of them hibernate at the Gouffre de La Fage. On average, 14.000 bats live within the tourist site. The Gouffre de La Fage is a birth site with species of high heritage value such as Schreiber's Minioptera, the Greater Bat, and the Lesser Horseshoe Bat.
The tour lasts from 45 minutes to 1 hour and will teach you more about this tourist site and its bats. Photos are allowed during the self-guided tour.
Introduce your children to the profession of archaeologist at the Gouffre de La Fage. Children will be able to keep themselves busy with a mini speleology course and an excavation tank awaits them for a fun and enriching visit. Does Dracula scare you? Come see his little sisters. At the Gouffre de La Fage, bats come to feed. This colony is one of the largest in Europe. As these little creatures have good taste, they have lodged themselves in a place adorned with superb stone draperies, with stalactites and stalagmites rising and falling towards each other. In the past, they shared their refuge with deers, chamois, rhinoceroses, wolves... as evidenced by several unearthed bones.
