The Gouffre de La Fage
The chasm of La Fage, at the head of our top 14 visits is a Natura 2000 classified site, with unique fauna and flora, notably with its 14.000 bats. About twenty minutes south of Brive-la-Gaillarde, the chasm will allow you to discover the profession of archaeologist and give your children a caving experience. The Gouffre de La Fage, a varied site
The Gouffre de La Fage is divided into two galleries. In this chasm you can admire beautiful draperies with various colors, richly decorated calcite bridges, a multitude of stalactites, columns and fantastic figures and a paleontological site.
A NATURA 2000 classified site!
The tourist site is classified as a NATURA 2000 site. The chasm is home to one of the largest bat colonies in Europe. The aim of being classified as a NATURA 2000 site is to maintain biodiversity by preserving the habitats of fauna and flora. In France, 33 species of bats are present and some of them hibernate at the Gouffre de La Fage. On average, 14.000 bats live within the tourist site. The Gouffre de La Fage is a birth site with species of high heritage value such as Schreiber's Minioptera, the Greater Bat, and the Lesser Horseshoe Bat.

The tour lasts from 45 minutes to 1 hour and will teach you more about this tourist site and its bats. Photos are allowed during the self-guided tour.
Opening dates 2023
- From April 1 to June 30 every day from 14 p.m. to 17 p.m. except on Wednesday.
- From July 1 to August 31 every day from 9:30 a.m. to 13 p.m. and from 00 p.m. to 14 p.m.
- From September 1 to September 10: From 14 p.m. to 00 p.m. Free visits. Closed on Wednesday.
- All Saints' Day school holidays: Tuesday and Thursday from 14 p.m. to 00 p.m. Ticket office closes at 17 p.m.
The rates
- For adults the price is €9.
- For children the price is 6€.
- For children under 4 years old the tour is free.
The archeology workshop
Introduce your children to the profession of archaeologist at the Gouffre de La Fage. Children will be able to keep themselves busy with a mini speleology course and an excavation tank awaits them for a fun and enriching visit. The price for this workshop is €12 per child, booking is required. A fun and educational way to introduce them to a new profession.

How to get here
The Gouffre de La Fage about twenty minutes from Brive-La-Gaillarde in Noailles. Take the D920 to arrive at the tourist site.
Where to park?
Free parking is provided by the tourist site.
Shop
The Gouffre de La Fage shop has many treasures for you to buy to finish your visit to the tourist site. Minerals, natural stone jewelry and various souvenirs await you there. However, the tourist site shop is not equipped with access for people with reduced mobility.
Where to eat?
A takeaway bar is located on site. You can eat on site, picnic tables are available on the Gouffre de La Fage site.
Our tip The bats of the Gouffre de La Fage
Does Dracula scare you? Come see his little sisters. At the Gouffre de La Fage, bats come to feed. This colony is one of the largest in Europe. As these little creatures have good taste, they have lodged themselves in a place adorned with superb stone draperies, with stalactites and stalagmites rising and falling towards each other. In the past, they shared their refuge with deers, chamois, rhinoceroses, wolves... as evidenced by several unearthed bones.
