Pompadour is famous for its Marquise (who has never set foot there!) but also for being the “City of the horse”. So saddle up, riders!

A national class stud

Created under Louis XIV, the Haras de Pompadour became royal under the reign of Louis XV then national in the XNUMXth century. Today it is part of the French Horse and Equestrian Institute and brings together the Château de Pompadour with its stables and its Orangerie riding school as well as the mare farm of the Domaine de Chignac.

With more than 160 events offered each year, ranging from equestrian cabarets to national and international horse riding competitions, you are sure to find something to entertain you.

The mare, a nursery of excellence

You may not know it, but the Anglo-Arab horse breed is French and originates from... Pompadour! The Domaine de Chignac mare farm is, moreover, specialized in the reproduction and conservation of this remarkable species of thoroughbred. Visiting it is the certainty of discovering exceptional animals and perhaps future champions.

Epic horse races

Taking the reins of a beautiful equine to ride through the Corrèze countryside doesn't tempt you? You can leave it to the professionals by remaining comfortably seated in the stands of the Pompadour racecourse, located just opposite the castle.

Horse racing at the Pompadour racecourse

Every year during the summer season, the Société des courses de Pompadour organizes eleven days of horse racing since 1837. These competitions regularly serve as a springboard for the best jockeys and horses on the international horse racing circuit. Your bets!
