Barrage du Saillant: vigorous and responsible site!

  1. Dam nestled in the heart of a Natura 2000 classified area
  2. Backpack and hiking shoes are our credo! This industrial heritage is at the crossroads of several existing hiking loops (GR 46, GRP of the Vézère gorges, future Greenway, etc.).
  3. And for shorter walks, 2 developed hiking trails allow you to travel along the banks of the Vézère, approach the hydroelectric plant and the dam and discover the history of the site and its environmental riches.
  4. Occasional guided tours are organized by the Country of Art and History Vézère Slate in the summer period.

Our tip On the salmon trail

View of the salmon jump, at the Saillant dam

Where the Vézère gorges end with a final waterfall, hydroelectric engineers could not resist the urge to build a dam in 1930. To best admire it, take a path that leads to the belvedere . From up there, a bird's eye view of the structure and the imposing rock that dominates it. It was named “salmon jump” in honor of the Corrèze salmon who at this location did not hesitate to jump out of the water to overcome the obstacle separating them from their place of reproduction. Along the way, thanks to signs, you will discover the whole history of salmon in Corrèze.
