Situation and history of Ayen diagonally

Ayen is located on the Yssandonnais plateaus, 20km northwest of Brive-la-Gaillarde. The village is spread out on a hillside with, at the foot of the limestone hill, the primitive village “Ayen-bas” where a pleasure castle and beautiful complexes remain. then the village mid-slope which developed with the advent of the railway. Having become the heart of the village, there is an interweaving of residences, wash houses and fountains mixing all eras... the top of the puy is clear and an orientation table allows you to observe towards the Dordogne, the most beautiful village of Saint-Robert, but also the Vézère valley and the Monédières massif towards the east. From this point of view, when the conditions are right, you can even see the volcanoes of Auvergne. Three heritage trails allow you to explore and connect these three levels of the Puy d'Ayen.

Ayen has been labeled as a Green Station for a long time and has been pursuing an ecological and sustainable approach long before this became widespread. Commune ZéroPhyto before the obligation, Maison des Services Au Public before the creation of the network of Maisons France Services, Orchard conservatory, Maison du développement durable… the inventory of initiatives would be tedious but reveals the commitment which characterizes this little corner of France.

Accessible hikes and natural spaces

The town hall and local associations, in agreement with its neighbors in Perpezac-le-blanc, Saint-Robert, Vars sur Roseix and Rosiers de Juillac, maintain beautiful hiking trails which penetrate the 4 corners of the valley, crossing “cols” and offer magnificent views…

Local products and restoration of taste heritage

On the Limousin Apple route as well as the Périgord AOC Walnut route, Ayen cultivates his taste for good ingredients produced on site in a short circuit... Moreover, his famous summer Country Producers' Market (every Thursday evening ) allows you to mix musical entertainment and delicious tastings... and here again, it is one of the most emblematic and oldest in the Brive region.

Where to sleep soundly in Ayen

A holiday village nestles on the heights of the town, previously linked to the Village Vacances Famille (VVF), it will change operator and benefit from a major renovation during the year 2022... it will unfortunately be closed to the public for the entire this season.
