The Gimel waterfalls

In Gimel, three waterfalls follow one another on the La Montane river: the Grand Saut which is 45 meters high, the Redole, 38 meters and finally the Queue de Cheval 60 meters high. In total, the Gimel waterfalls flow to a height of 143 meters. Abel Hugo, Victor Hugo's brother, described them in his work entitled Picturesque France in 1883.

For hiking enthusiasts, many marked routes run along the waterfalls in Parc Vuillier, named after the painter Gaston Vuillier who had the idea of ​​developing it between 1893 and 1899.
It is important to wear suitable shoes to descend the slope that leads to the waterfalls. It will take one hour to tour the Park.

The Murel waterfalls in the Dordogne Valley

Get away from us a little, but not too far away, just the time for a nature getaway! The Murel waterfalls, in Albussac nearArgentat-sur-Dordogne are waiting for you. To do it right, don't forget good walking shoes and set off for almost 8 km of walking on the “Les cascades de Murel” hiking route.

As you advance, you hear the roar of the water and what a surprise, several waterfalls follow one another in the steep and wooded gorges of Franche-Valeine: the Prade waterfall (25 meters), the Grande Cascade (13 meters) and two small waterfalls of 1,5 meters and 4 meters. They plunge into a maze of rocks before finding calm and serenity to reach the Dordogne.

The Autoire waterfall in Lot

What if you took a detour through the Lot region to discover another waterfall? In the Dordogne Valley, the Autoire waterfall flows through the heart of a natural cirque to a height of 30 meters, making it the highest waterfall in the region.

To admire it, you will have to follow a 1,2 km hiking trail, starting from the car park located at the exit of the village. Remember to put on a good pair of shoes!

Where are the Gimel waterfalls located?

The village of Gimel-les-Cascades is located 12 km northwest of Tulle and approximately 40 km from Brive. It takes about 40 minutes to drive from Brive.

  • The site is open from March 1 to November 1 and the tour is charged.
  • The ticket office is located below the village, as close as possible to the waterfall site.
  • The use of strollers is not recommended. You must bring a baby carrier.
  • The site is not accessible for people with reduced mobility and it is not recommended for people with heart problems.
  • The village has several parking areas.
  • Pets are accepted.

Located in the town of Albussac, the Murel waterfalls are 15 km from Argentat-sur-Dordogne and approximately 40 km from Brive. It takes between 40 and 55 minutes to drive from Brive.

The village of Autoire is approximately 20 km from Rocamadour and approximately 50 km from Brive. It takes around 1 hour to drive from Brive.
