General view of Lake Causse

15 minutes from Brive, in a green setting, in the Couze valley, there is a lake... born around forty years ago from a desire of local elected officials to make it a place of tourist attractiveness. With its 200 developed hectares (100 hectares of water and 100 hectares of natural spaces), the Lac du Causse site stands out as the identity card of our territory and naturally figures in our top 14 visits.

It also is an ideal base camp to practice leisure sports (on water or on land), a peaceful place to recharge your batteries but also a swimming spot which makes it a very popular place for Brive people and visitors.

The Causse Lake: fun and gaillard destination!

  1. Practice nature sports activities on "THE" destination spot: This is Nouvelle Aquitaine East Coast!
  2. Use the libeo shuttles during the summer period and avoid taking your vehicle
  3. Participate in summer activities: shows et taverns and taste local products from the country farmers' market. It makes you want to eat!
  4. Do you want to extend the pleasure? Many accommodation solutions  surround the lake.
  5. And to strengthen your calves, rent a bike and explore the many hike tracks offered (mountain bike or hybrid bike)

Once upon a time... a mill

Its history begins in 1700 where it is mentioned under the name Moulin de la Mothe. It was in co-lordship until 1758, when it became the exclusive property of the lord of Lissac.

If its primary purpose was to grind grain, the mill successively housed a paper mill around 1825, then a spinning mill and finally a vinegar factory.

At the beginning of the last century, it returned to its primary functions: flour milling. Then it turned into a sawmill and finally into a walnut oil factory. The millstones stopped turning definitively in the early 1960s.

A few years after the lake was filled with water in the mid-1970s, a wing of the building in very poor condition was destroyed and the millstones were dismantled. However, they are still visible in an orchard along the beach.

Then the building will house a restaurant in the 1990s. On the second floor, the local branch of the House of Water and Fishing, welcomes you all year round for courses and information.

An Eldorado for outdoor sports and leisure

This body of water-nautical base is our seaside resort. A whole host of aquatic activities are offered: bathing, sailing, pedal boating, without forgettingrowing , paddle boarding, canoeing ....

Furthermore, the surroundings of the lake, the hilly landscapes and the multiple trails are an ideal playground for hikers, Mountain bikers and trail enthusiasts.

The Causse Lake has thus received approval to receive French and foreign delegations for team preparations for the Paris Olympic Games 2024!

Pratical information

Where do you park at the Causse Lake?

Several parking lots are set up around the lake. To name the main ones, and with direct access to the beach, we recommend the Moulin parking lot, below the lake towards the charming little village of Soulier.

The second parking lot is the one of Peupliers, part of which is designed to accommodate camper vans. On the front row with a breathtaking view of the lake!

To access water activities, head to the campsite!

And for fishing, there are two possibilities: the car park located next to the Saint-Cernin-de-Larche multipurpose hall or the Moulin car park, a stone's throw from the House of Water and Fishing.

Are you looking for sanitary facilities?

Dry toilets are available on the beach, next to the Nautical Base and near Port-Couzage (opposite the Base). You will also find them at the first aid station on Peupliers beach.

Monitoring of the swimming area and water quality

The swimming area is monitored every day during the summer holidays from 11 a.m. to 19 p.m. by lifeguards.
The water is checked regularly to ensure its quality and guarantee safe swimming.
Consult the quality of the bathing water of the Causse Lake here.

Wearing a life jacket is compulsory in water activities

Please remember that you must wear a vest in all your water activities: paddling, canoeing, rowing, etc.
We invite you to read the Guide to Freshwater Nautical Leisurepublished by the Ministry of the Sea to safely get ready for your visit to the Causse Lake.
