The origin of the creation of the Book Fair
The Brive Book Fair has its origins in 1973. A group of friends who are passionate about reading and accompanied by a local bookseller decide to sell books by well-known authors on the market. This experience will be repeated over the following two years before being interrupted.
An unmissable literary event
After a 6-year break, the Brive Book Fair is coming back to life, in a more professional way. Since 1982, it has become an unmissable event of cultural life. It is the most important general literary event in the provinces after that in the capital: the Paris Salon. It does not benefit from the worldwide notoriety of the Angoulême Comic Strip Festival and is not as specialized as the Montreuil Youth Literature Salon, but it brings together all literature and attracts a significant number of authors and readers…
Furthermore, it seems that in Brive, 100 liters of ink were necessary to write thousands of dedications. It would seem that this volume is nothing compared to that passed during the libations... Sorry, deliberations and other broken discussions, fellow's liver!
The figures of the Book Fair
The latest editions have welcomed more than 300 writers. One of the key figures of this event is Christian Signol who usually sells more than 1200 books during these 3 days.
Finally, the Brive Book Fair, over the years, has experienced renowned Presidents : In 2011, Antoine Gallimard chaired the 30th Brive Book Fair. Erik Orsenna, Alain Mabanckou, Jean Teulé, Daniele Sallenave, Frédéric Beigbeder and more recently Daniel Pennac, Delphine de Vigan and Eric Fottorino succeeded him.
